Hey, pastor, don’t mumble nonsense! For a long time, I have been a devoted Christian. I believe everything said by pastors, including all men being born sinful, the virgin birth of Christ, sin of pre-marriage sex, God’s creation, etc. However, as I grow up, I am exposed to more science, and I began to doubt what the pastors said. Now I am in college, my building of belief collapsed.

How come it collapsed? The simplest reason is that almost everyone around me is an atheist. They are diligent, hard-working, and they earn better grades than I do. I sought God’s help again and again, but all of which ended up failure. Why God doesn’t help me as he did in my high school?

I tried to gather all Christians on campus, and after two years’ effort, I gathered 32 people in my bible study group. Some of the members are students but most are staff. Can you imagine? One of them is a biology full professor. We gather on a weekly basis. Yet now I feel disgusting about our weekly meetings because I feel that our pastor’s sermons are more and more left behind what I learned for the college and society.

When all these attempts failed, I began to rethink my Christian belief. Is it a positive power or negative power? After cutting myself from the Bible for a couple of days, I found the answer. There is no relationship between my success and the Bible. No matter what Christian successful persons’ witnesses, the obscure biblical words don’t contribute to any worldly success at all. Biblical teach only causes confusion.

So why are some Christians success? I stopped and think. Then I got my answer. It is the faith lead them to success rather than the religious theory. They believe God will give them the best. Some persons like Jeremy Lin claims he plays basketball for Jesus because they have strong faith. Therefore, the only thing the religion brings to us is the perseverance. We believe because He gives us power.

Then turn to the pastors, our topic. Who are they? Most of the pastors are not worldly successful persons. They are not affluent in materials. So their teaching cannot lead us to worldly success at all. However, I am not saying that they are worthless. Pastors do have their contribution to the society. For example, churches build schools, hospitals, and colleges almost everywhere in the world. Their contributions cannot be forgotten.

Yet some pastors is too stubborn with their religious theory. Some of them seem to be too extreme. They keep teaching the difficult biblical theories that common people cannot accept. More extremely, they are trying to apply such biblical theory to people’s daily lives. Certainly, this attempt will end up failure.

To conclude, pastors can help us be persons with noble characters and make the society better, but they cannot lead us to worldly success. Therefore, we should apply the Bible in spiritual level and do the things using our brains. If pastors confuse spiritual and worldly matters, just ignore their teachings.
