A good roommate should be positive, diligent, and can be an example for you. However, this kind of roommate is almost nowhere to find. Most of the roommates are video game players, smokers, and lazy guys.
In my college, each dorm has four residents. When I was in my freshman year, my three roommates are intensive game players. They shout and hit the keyboard hard all day long, even after I go to bed. Therefore, I changed my roommates when I upgraded to year II. However, one of my sophomore roommates is a more addictive video game fan. He plays LoL with his fellows non-stop. He can even don’t eat anything all day. What’s worse, his voice is very loud and sounds like thunder. When he is playing computer, the corridor on my floor is filled with his noise. He made my dorm a hell.
How come my roommates are so bad? I believe there is a deep reason. It is the university education’s problem. Universities give students too much freedom. Everyone is “liberated” from hell-like senior high to a paradise. The video game addicts believe that they can play computer games for four years without restriction. So they play it whole-heartedly at dorms. My roommate stays on campus for whole summer vacation because he can play computer games more freely than he is at home.
How to solve this problem? Honestly speaking, it is difficult to solve. Game addiction is like influenza circulating around common university campuses. College students think video games are far more interesting than professors’ lectures. They can be freed from the real world by closing themselves in a virtual cyber world. This shows the wide-spreading fear about the outside world. Game players are kind of afraid of the reality so they hide in computer games.
Simply put, video game addiction is a social phenomenon, and game addicts are difficult to change. The only thing you can do is cut yourself from your roommates and study in the library.
