I started blogging about 10 years ago when I was a junior high school student. I opened a new account on Sina Blog with great curiosity. However as time passes by, I am not able to publish any new articles on that blog.
Why? Because of the harsh censorship. The Sina Blog administrators ban articles from publishing by saying there are “sensitive words” in my articles. At the beginning, there were only a few words in an article that I needed to change or delete. The censorship is completely automatic. Later on, the range of sensitive words became larger and larger. And I couldn’t find which were the sensitive ones. I wasn’t able to publish any articles on Sina Blog.
I love writing new stuff. So I changed to another platform called Zhihu, a Q&A social media similar to Quora. The censorship on Zhihu is much milder than that of Sina Blog. It uses manual censoring rather than an automatic one. I wrote about 200 posts on Zhihu and gained me 600 followers in 3 years’ time. However, Zhihu is still not free of censorship. There were sometimes my posts being blocked by Zhihu administrators.
So I decided to use WordPress and write articles in English. I feel totally safe and at ease when writing on WordPress. Since I’m Chinese, and English is not my native language, I read English medias almost on a daily basis to improve my English.
Now I feel completely free since I’m writing on WordPress. And I feel deeply that the future of blogging will be centered on English rather than any other language. The whole world’s bloggers will use the same language, which is so inspiring.
