  • Course Description

Introductory analysis of how markets and governments interact to determine an economy’s output, employment, income, interest rate, wage, price, and trade balance levels over time.

  • Pre/Co-requisites

Prerequisite: ECON 102

Corequisites: MATH 124 or MATH 126 or higher.

  • Textbook and Materials

Macroeconomics, 3e by Acemoglu/Laibson/List

Students must purchase Pearson MyLab in order to complete homework assignments and in-class quizzes.

The course aims to cover the topics listed below (this may vary slightly). Each topic should take between one and three weeks of class time.

  1. Introduction and review of key concepts in Economics. (Ch 1 & 2).
  2. Optimization (Ch 3)
  3. Aggregate Demand and Aggregate Supply (Ch 4)
  4. Measuring National Income, Inflation and Unemployment. (Ch 5, Ch 9, Ch 11.3)
  5. The Economy in the Long Run. (Ch 7)
  6. Credit Markets (Ch 10)
  7. Money and the Federal Reserve. (Ch 11).

10% In-class quizzes

Valid reasons for late submissions and procedures for scheduling makeup exams should be presented by the due dates. Late homework submissions will incur a penalty of 20% for each day overdue if without reasons.
