- Course Description
Introductory analysis of how markets and governments interact to determine an economy’s output, employment, income, interest rate, wage, price, and trade balance levels over time.
- Pre/Co-requisites
Prerequisite: ECON 102
Corequisites: MATH 124 or MATH 126 or higher.
- Textbook and Materials
Macroeconomics, 3e by Acemoglu/Laibson/List
Students must purchase Pearson MyLab in order to complete homework assignments and in-class quizzes.
- List of Topics
The course aims to cover the topics listed below (this may vary slightly). Each topic should take between one and three weeks of class time.
- Introduction and review of key concepts in Economics. (Ch 1 & 2).
- Optimization (Ch 3)
- Aggregate Demand and Aggregate Supply (Ch 4)
- Measuring National Income, Inflation and Unemployment. (Ch 5, Ch 9, Ch 11.3)
- The Economy in the Long Run. (Ch 7)
- Credit Markets (Ch 10)
- Money and the Federal Reserve. (Ch 11).
- Assessment
40% Homework
25% Midterm Exam
25% Final Exam
10% In-class quizzes
Valid reasons for late submissions and procedures for scheduling makeup exams should be presented by the due dates. Late homework submissions will incur a penalty of 20% for each day overdue if without reasons.

| A: 93% – 100% | C: 74% – 76.9% |
| A-: 90% – 92.9% | C-: 70% – 73.9% |
| B+: 87% – 89.9% | D+: 67% – 69.9% |
| B: 84% – 86.9% | D: 64% – 66.9% |
| B-: 80% – 83.9% | D-: 60% – 63.9% |
| C+: 77% – 79.9% | F: <60% |
Grades will be curved based on the outcomes achieved. The grades displayed on WebCampus may not necessarily represent your final grade.
